In the 10th year of the declaration of Prophethood, a short while after the end of the siege of the Sh’ib of Abi Taalib, Abu Talib , the uncle of the Final Messenger of Allah ﷺ, passed away.
The Beloved Prophet ﷺ was deeply saddened by his uncle's passing.
Barely a week had passed since the passing of Abu Talib when his wife, Sayyidatuna Khadijah رضي الله عنها, also passed away. These two individuals, the closest to him in Makkah, had always supported and helped him at every step. When the Beloved Prophet ﷺ lit the candle of monotheism [Tawheed] in the darkness of disbelief and polytheism [Kufr and Shirk], these two were his support during those difficult times.
These two incidents occurred in the same year within a very short span of time, which deeply saddened the Beloved Prophet ﷺ. Therefore, he ﷺ named that year 'Aam-ul-Huzn' (The Year of Grief).
