عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ تُوُفِّيَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّم يَوْمَ الاثْنَيْنِ،
شمائل ترمذی (حدیث 369)It is narrated from Sayyidatuna Aisha رضي الله عنها that the Beloved Prophet ﷺ passed away on Monday.
Sayyiduna Anas رضي الله عنه says that on the day the Holy Prophet ﷺ arrived in Madinah, everything in Madinah became illuminated and radiant, and when there is an abundance of light, such radiance is also felt. In the dark nights of Ramadan, sometimes there is light due to the abundance of light, and on the day the Holy Prophet ﷺ passed away, everything in Madinah became dark. We had not even wiped the dust from our hands after the Beloved Prophet's ﷺ passing when we found a change in our hearts. Sayyidatuna Aisha رضي الله عنها says that at the time of his passing, a bowl of water was kept near the Holy Prophet ﷺ, into which he would repeatedly dip his hand and wipe it on his blessed face (as this would bring relief during the intensity of heat and anxiety). At that time, the Holy Prophet ﷺ was praying in the Divine Court: 'O Allah, help me with the severity of death.' In another narration, she says that after the passing of the Holy Prophet ﷺ, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه came, kissed his blessed forehead, and placing his hands on both his arms, said: 'O Prophet, O Chosen One, O Intimate Friend.' This also clearly proves the Beloved Prophet's ﷺ knowledge of the unseen, that the Holy Prophet ﷺ knew about his death long before and had informed people about it on various occasions. Thus, on the occasion of Hajjat al-Wada' (Farewell Hajj), he bid farewell to the people, saying: 'Perhaps I will not perform Hajj with you after this.' During his final illness, he called Sayyidah Fatima رضي الله عنها and whispered something to her, upon which she wept. Then he called her again and whispered something to her, upon which she laughed. When the wives of the Prophet رضی اللہ تعالی عنهن inquired about this from Sayyidah Fatima رضي الله عنها, she said that the Beloved Prophet ﷺ had whispered to her that he would pass away in this illness, so she wept. Then he whispered to her that she would be the first of his family to pass away and join him, so she laughed. The Beloved Prophet's ﷺ condition would fluctuate during his illness. On the day of his passing, Monday, he was feeling better. His chamber was adjacent to the mosque. He lifted the curtain and saw the people praying Fajr. Seeing this, he smiled with joy. The people thought that he wanted to come to the mosque and became overwhelmed with joy, but he gestured to them to stop and entered his chamber, drawing the curtain. This was the last time the Companions رضي الله عنهم saw the beauty of the Beloved Prophet ﷺ. Sayyiduna Anas رضي الله عنه narrates that the Beloved Prophet's ﷺ blessed face appeared as if it were a page of the Quran, meaning it had become white.
