ریاض الصالحین (حدیث 441)Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah رضي الله عنه reports: I heard the Noble Prophet ﷺ say, three days before his apparent passing, “Let every one of you depart from this world while assuming the best of his Lord.”
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ visited a person who was near death. He ﷺ asked him, 'How do you find yourself?' The person replied, 'O Messenger of Allah ﷺ, I find myself fearing my sins and hoping for the mercy of my Lord.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'At a time when a person's heart has both hope and fear, Allah grants him what he hopes for and gives him security from what he fears.' Imam Ghazali رحمۃ اللہ علیہ said, 'There was a person who used to lend money to people. He would forgive the wealthy and be lenient with the poor. When he died, he met Allah, and he had not performed any good deeds. Allah said, 'Who has more right to forgive than Me?' Then, he was forgiven because despite being bankrupt in terms of worship, he had good hope and expectation of forgiveness from his Lord.
