214)It is narrated from Abdullah bin Harith that he said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ would not laugh out loud, but he would smile.
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Harith رضي الله عنه says, 'I have not seen anyone more prone to smiling than the Holy Prophet ﷺ.' Sayyiduna Jarir bin Abdullah رضي الله عنه says, 'Since I embraced Islam, the Holy Prophet ﷺ never prevented me from coming to him. And when he saw me, he would smile,' and in another narration, 'he would beam.' Sayyiduna Amir bin Sa'd رضي الله عنه says that my father, Sa'd, said that the Holy Prophet ﷺ laughed on the day of the Battle of Khandaq (the Trench) until his blessed teeth became visible. Sayyiduna Amir says, 'I asked what he laughed at?' He said that a disbeliever had taken cover with a shield, and Sa'd was a great archer, but the disbeliever kept moving his shield, thus protecting his forehead (as if preventing Sa'd's arrow from hitting him, even though he was a famous archer). Sa'd once took out an arrow (and waited, drawing it back in his bow) and the moment the disbeliever raised his head from behind the shield, he shot it so accurately that it didn't miss his forehead, and he immediately fell. His leg also went up. So the Holy Prophet ﷺ laughed at this incident. I asked what he laughed at. He said at Sa'd's action. Sayyiduna Abu Dharr رضي الله عنه says that the Holy Prophet ﷺ said, 'I know very well the person who will enter Paradise first and also the one who will be taken out of Hell last.' On the Day of Judgment, a man will be presented in the Divine Court, and an order will be given to present his minor sins before him, that you committed such and such sins on such and such days, and he will confess because there will be no room for denial, and he will be very fearful in his heart that only minor sins have been presented so far. What will happen regarding the major sins? During this time, an order will be given that for every sin of this person, a good deed will be given. Upon hearing this order, the person himself will say that I still have many sins left that are not visible here. Sayyiduna Abu Dharr رضي الله عنه says that the Holy Prophet ﷺ laughed while narrating his saying until his blessed teeth became visible. The laughter was at the fact that he who was afraid of the revelation of sins himself became a seeker of their revelation.
