Translation

Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik رضي الله عنه reported that the Noble Prophet ﷺ said to him: يَا ذَا الأُذُنَيْنِ — O two-eared one. Sayyiduna Mahmood narrated that Sayyiduna Abu Usamah said: The Beloved Prophet ﷺ was engaging in humor with him.

Narration

Sayyiduna Anas رضي الله عنه narrates that the Holy Prophet ﷺ once jokingly said to him, 'O you with two ears' یا ذالاذنین (Ya Dhaal-udhnain). Sayyiduna Hasan رضي الله عنه narrates that an old woman came to the Holy Prophet ﷺ and requested, 'O Messenger of Allah ﷺ, please pray that Allah admits me to Paradise.' The Holy Prophet ﷺ said, 'An old woman cannot enter Paradise.' The woman started to cry. The Holy Prophet ﷺ said, 'Tell her that she will not enter Paradise in a state of old age, but rather, Allah will transform all the women of Paradise into young virgins.'

Key Points

  • A cheerful disposition is an excellent quality, but its purpose should be to bring joy to others and strengthen relationships, not to ridicule.
  • Special care should be taken that humor does not cause anyone's hurt or insult.
