مشکاۃالمصابیح (حدیث 4970)It is narrated from Ibn Abbas رضي الله عنهما that he said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “He is not one of us who does not show mercy to our young, respect our elders, enjoin good, and forbid evil.”
Sayyiduna Abu al-Tufail رضي الله عنه narrated, 'I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ distributing meat at a gathering. I was a young boy at that time and was picking up camel bones when a woman came and approached the Noble Prophet ﷺ. He ﷺ spread out his shawl for her to sit on. Sayyiduna Abu al-Tufail رضي الله عنه asked, "Who is she?" People replied, "She is the foster mother of the Beloved Prophet ﷺ who nursed him ﷺ." Sayyiduna Umar bin Saib narrated that he heard that once the Beloved Prophet ﷺ was sitting when his foster father came. The Beloved Prophet ﷺ spread out a corner of his garment for him to sit on. Then his foster mother came, and he ﷺ spread out another corner of his garment for her to sit on. When his foster brother came, he ﷺ stood up and made him sit in front of him. Allama Muhammad ibn Allan Shafi'i رحمۃ اللہ علیہ says, "Not recognizing the honor and respect of our elders" means not giving them the honor and respect they deserve. Allama Abdur Rauf Manawi رحمۃ اللہ علیہ says, "Not recognizing the honor and respect of our elders means not giving them the respect they deserve. It is incumbent upon you to show mercy and compassion to all creatures, regardless of who they are, because they are the servants and creation of Allah, even if they are sinners or disobedient. When you do this, your efforts will be successful, and your status will be elevated.
