مشکاۃ المصابیح، باب آداب السفر (حدیث3900)Narrated by Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Ja'far, he said: Whenever the Messenger of Allah ﷺ returned from a journey, his family's children would go out to greet him. On one such occasion, I was brought out to greet him, and he ﷺ seated me in front of him. Then, one of Sayyidatuna Fatimah's sons was brought, and he ﷺ seated him behind him. We thus entered Madinah, three people on one mount.
A villager came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, 'You kiss children, but we do not.' The Beloved Prophet ﷺ replied, 'What can I do if Allah has removed mercy from your heart?' Sayyiduna Jabir bin Samurah narrates that I offered the Zuhr prayer behind the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. After the prayer, he went towards his house, and I accompanied him. On the way, we encountered some children. The Beloved Prophet ﷺ gently stroked the cheeks of each of them, and he also stroked my cheeks. I felt such coolness or fragrance from his blessed hand as if he had just taken it out of a perfume's box. Whenever he ﷺ passed by children, he would greet them with Salam.
