Personal Traits of the Beloved Prophet ﷺ

Hadith

Translation

Indeed, Islam is a pure and clean (religion), (In another narration, it is stated that Allah has founded Islam upon cleanliness) therefore, you should also adopt cleanliness, for only the one who is pure (both outwardly and inwardly) will enter Paradise.

Narration

It is also narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir رضي الله عنه that whether the Beloved Prophet ﷺ had applied perfume or not, whoever he shook hands with would remain fragrant with its scent for the entire day. If he ﷺ compassionately passed his blessed hand over a child's head, that child would be recognized by the fragrance, indicating that the Beloved Prophet ﷺ had touched them. Once, the Beloved Prophet ﷺ stayed at the house of Sayyiduna Anas رضي الله عنه, and he ﷺ perspired. Sayyiduna Anas's mother brought a vial and began collecting the Beloved Prophet's ﷺ blessed perspiration. When the Beloved Prophet ﷺ inquired about it, she replied: 'I will keep it with my perfumes, for it is the finest and purest fragrance.' Imam Bukhari, in his 'Tarikh Kabir,' narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir رضي الله عنه that whichever street or market the Beloved Prophet ﷺ passed through, if anyone later passed by the same way, they would recognize by the fragrance that he ﷺ had passed there. It is narrated from Umm al-Mu'minin Sayyidatuna Aisha Siddiqa رضي الله عنها that she said: 'I asked the Beloved Prophet ﷺ: "You enter the lavatory, but we do not find any trace of your relieving yourself there." The Beloved Prophet ﷺ replied: "O Aisha! Do you not know that the earth swallows what comes out of the Prophets علیہم السلام? You will never see anything like that from us."

Key Points

  • Cleanliness is a part of faith. Staying clean is a good deed; everyone likes a clean person and enjoys meeting and talking with them.
  • Staying clean is also a blessed Sunnah, and one who stays clean is saved from many diseases.
