صحیح بخاری،کتاب الرقاق(حدیث6459)Sayyiduna Abu Umamah رضي الله عنه reports that one day the companions were speaking about worldly matters in the presence of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The Holy Prophet ﷺ said, “Do you not hear? Do you not hear? Living with simplicity is part of faith, living with simplicity is part of faith.”
This quality was also present in the blessed being of the Holy Prophet ﷺ to a perfect degree. Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه passed by a group of people who had roasted goat meat before them. They invited him to partake in the meal, but he declined, saying that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ never ate his fill of barley bread and departed from this world in this manner. Sayyidatuna Aisha Siddiqa رضي الله عنها narrates that the household of the Holy Prophet ﷺ never ate their fill of barley bread for two consecutive days until he ﷺ departed from this world. Sayyiduna Anas رضي الله عنه narrates that he ﷺ never ate from a raised dining table (خوان) nor did he consume finely sifted flour (باریک روٹی). In the blessed house of the Holy Prophet ﷺ, sometimes for two consecutive months, a fire would not be lit (meaning the stove wouldn't be lit), and they would subsist on only water and dates. At times, due to the intensity of hunger, he ﷺ would tie stones to his stomach. As narrated by Sayyiduna Abu Talha Ansari رضي الله عنه, one day we complained to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about hunger, and each of us showed a single stone tied to our stomachs. He ﷺ then showed two stones tied to his blessed stomach.
