صحیح بخاری، باب غزوہ خندق (حدیث4101)Sayyiduna Jabir رضي الله عنه reports: On the day of the Trench, we were digging when a large rock obstructed our work. The companions came to the court of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, “O Messenger of Allah ﷺ, a large rock is in our way.” He replied, “I will come.” Then he stood up, while a stone was tied to his blessed stomach, and we had not eaten anything for three days. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ picked up a pickaxe and struck the rock, and it shattered like sand.
In battles where even the bravest and most valiant would flee, the Beloved Prophet ﷺ remained steadfast. For instance, in the Battle of Uhud, when the Muslims suffered a defeat, this mountain of resilience stood firm, throwing arrows at the enemy. When his bow broke, he began throwing stones. In the Battle of Hunain, only a few devoted companions remained with him ﷺ; the rest had fled. In this critical situation, he ﷺ did not merely defend his position; rather, he repeatedly urged his mule forward towards the enemy, but his devoted companions prevented him. When battles raged fiercely, the Companions رضي الله عنهم would seek refuge behind the Beloved Prophet ﷺ. As narrated by Sayyiduna Bara' bin Azib رضي الله عنه: 'By Allah! When the fighting intensified, we would seek refuge with the Beloved Prophet ﷺ, and the bravest among us was the one who stood facing the enemy alongside him.' Upon the public declaration of his prophethood, the Quraysh strongly opposed him ﷺ. When Abu Talib also considered abandoning him, the Beloved Prophet ﷺ said: 'O my uncle! By Allah! Even if they were to place the sun in my right hand and the moon in my left, on condition that I abandon this mission, I would not abandon it until Allah makes it prevail, or I perish in the attempt.'
