سنن نسائ، (حدیث 12)It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar رضي الله عنهم that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Trimming the nails, shortening the mustache, and shaving the hair below the navel are natural (innate) practices of the Sunnah.
Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Umar رضي الله عنه reported, 'I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ trimming his mustache.' Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Busr رضي الله عنه said, 'I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ shaving his mustache.' Umm al-Mu'minin Aisha رضي الله عنها reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Ten things are part of the natural fitrah (innate disposition): trimming/shaving the mustache, growing the beard, using a miswak (toothbrush), cleaning (with water) the nose (inside part), trimming the nails, washing the joints, removing the armpit hair, removing pubic hair, Taharah, and the tenth thing the rawi forgot, but he thinks it is washing mouth.' Fitrah refers to those things that a person's natural disposition inherently likes and accepts, and which the Prophets, peace be upon them, have also necessarily chosen and preferred. Therefore, matters of fitrah are also referred to as those actions that all Prophets and Messengers have performed and agreed upon, and for which we have also been commanded to act. Cutting nails is considered a part of fitrah because it is inherent in human nature. A person's sound nature naturally demands the cutting of nails. And when the Shariah (Islamic law) also commands something that is part of fitrah, its importance is emphasized even more. The Final Prophet ﷺ used to trim his nails and mustache every Friday before the congregational Friday Salah. Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Umar رضي الله عنه narrated, 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to cut his nails and mustache every Friday.' Sayyiduna Anas رضي الله عنه narrated, 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ set a maximum limit of forty days for us to trim our mustaches, cut our nails, remove armpit hair, and remove pubic hair.' The Beloved Prophet ﷺ never kept his mustache long, but trimmed it as soon as it started to grow over his lip. Because he was very neat and tidy, he didn't like long mustaches on himself or others, as they could get into food and drink. The Beloved Prophet ﷺ maintained cleanliness and neatness in these matters by trimming his mustache.
