عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ قَالَ کَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّم يَأْکُلُ الْقِثَّائَ بِالرُّطَبِ۔
شمائل ترمذی (حدیث 187)Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Ja'far رضي الله عنه said: The Holy Prophet ﷺ used to eat cucumber with fresh dates.
Sayyidatuna Aisha رضي الله عنها narrates that the Holy Prophet ﷺ used to eat watermelon with fresh dates. The Noble Prophet ﷺ would eat fresh dates with watermelon and would say, 'The coolness of this will counteract the heat of that, and the heat of that will counteract the coolness of this.' Sayyiduna Anas رضي الله عنه says, 'I saw the Holy Prophet ﷺ eating melon and dates together.' The Beloved Prophet ﷺ used to consume fresh fruits with dried fruits. From a medical perspective, there are countless benefits in this practice. The heat and intensity of warm fruits are controlled by the coolness of cold fruits, and the strength present in them is obtained by the human body. Imam Qurtubi states: 'This proves that while eating food and fruits, their effects, qualities, and natures should be considered, just as the Holy Prophet ﷺ combined cucumber and dates. Cucumber has a cooling effect, and dates are warm. So, they were used together. In this way, moderation is created in these foods, and the body gains strength.'
