شمائل ترمذی (حدیث 197)It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas رضي الله عنه who said: I brought a bucket of Zamzam water to the Noble Prophet ﷺ, and he ﷺ drank it while standing.
Sayyiduna Nazal bin Sabra رضي الله عنه narrates that when Sayyiduna Ali رضي الله عنه was present in the courtyard of the Kufa mosque, a pitcher of water was brought to him. He took a handful of water, rinsed his mouth, put water in his nose, and then wiped it on his face and hands. Then he stood up and drank water and said, 'This is the ablution of a person who is already in a state of ablution.' I saw the Holy Prophet ﷺ doing the same. Sayyiduna Anas رضي الله عنه says that the Holy Prophet ﷺ used to take three breaths while drinking water and would say, 'Drinking in this way is more pleasant and more quenching.' Sayyiduna Kabsha says that the Holy Prophet ﷺ came to my house. There was a water skin hanging there. The Holy Prophet ﷺ stood up and drank water from the mouth of the water skin. I got up and cut off the mouth of the water skin (as a blessing/tabarruk). Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Abi Waqas رضي الله عنه says that the Holy Prophet ﷺ used to drink water while standing. It is narrated in Sahihain that a bucket of Zamzam water was brought to the Noble Prophet ﷺ, and he drank from it while standing, even though he had forbidden drinking while standing. Rather, in Sahih Muslim, in the Hadith narrated by Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه, it is mentioned that no one should drink while standing, and whoever does so should vomit it. The reconciliation between these Hadith is that drinking while standing is permissible, and the prohibition is for discouragement ( تنزیہی ). Among those who have given concession for drinking while standing are Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib, Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Abi Waqas, Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar, and Sayyidah Aisha رضي الله عنهم.
