شمائل ترمذی (حدیث 301)Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Masood رضي الله عنه said: The Noble Prophet ﷺ instructed me to recite some portion of the Qur’an. I said, “O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! Should I recite it to you while it has been revealed to you?” He ﷺ replied, “I love to hear it from someone else.” So I began reciting Surah An-Nisa, and when I reached the verse ‘وَجِئْنَا بِكَ عَلَى هؤلاء شَهِيدًا’ (Surah An-Nisa, 4:41), I looked up and saw tears flowing from the blessed eyes of the Holy Prophet ﷺ.
I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, ‘There is no child of Adam born except that Satan pokes a finger at the time of its birth, causing it to cry out from the poking of Satan, except Mary and her son.’ Then Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه recited the verse: ‘And I give her and her children in Your protection from Shaitaan (Satan), the rejected one’” Sayyiduna Umar ibn al-Khattab رضي الله عنه reported: “I often supplicated, اللّٰھم ارزقنى عینین ھطالتین تشفیان الْقلب بذروف الدُّمُوع من خشیتك قبل أَن تكون الدُّمُوع دَمًا والأضراس جمرا۔ ‘O Allah, grant me two weeping eyes that will satisfy the heart with tears of Your fear before the tears become blood and the teeth become charcoal.’” Umm Fadl bint al-Harith رضي الله عنها reported: “One day, I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with Imam Hussain رضي الله عنه, and I placed him in his lap. After a while, I looked at the Beloved Prophet ﷺ and saw his eyes filled with tears. Then he said to me, ‘Jibril came to me and informed me that my nation would martyr this son of mine and brought me the red earth of his killing place.’” Sayyidah Aisha رضي الله عنها reported: رایت رسول اللّٰه صلى اللّٰه عليه وسلم یقبل عثمان بن مظعون وھو میت حتى رایت الدموع تسیل۔ “I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ kissing Sayyiduna Uthman bin Maz’un رضي الله عنه while he was dead, and I saw tears flowing from his eyes.” Sayyiduna Anas رضي الله عنه reported: “The Beloved Prophet ﷺ informed people about the martyrdom of Sayyiduna Zayd, Sayyiduna Ja’far, and Sayyiduna Ibn Ruwahah رضي الله عنهم before the news reached them. He said, ‘Now Zayd has taken up the banner, but he has been martyred. Then Ja’far took up the banner, and he too has been martyred. Then Ibn Ruwahah took up the banner, and he also drank the cup of martyrdom.’ While saying this, his eyes were filled with tears until one of the swords of Allah (meaning Sayyiduna Khalid ibn al-Walid رضي الله عنه) took up the banner, and Allah granted him victory over the disbelievers through his hand.
