شمائل ترمزی (حدیث 47)Sayyiduna Anas رضي الله تعالٰى عنه said: I saw the Noble Prophet ﷺ with his hair dyed.
It is established through narration that some of the Holy Prophet's ﷺ blessed hair was dyed. However, a narration in Sahih Muslim narrated by Sayyiduna Anas رضي الله عنه indicates that he ﷺ did not use dye. As Ibn Sirin رحمۃ اللہ علیہ states, Sayyiduna Anas رضي الله عنه was asked: 'Did the Beloved Prophet ﷺ use dye?' He replied: 'His blessed hair did not reach a state where it needed to be dyed,' meaning very few of his hairs were white. In another narration, it is stated that his ﷺ blessed hair did not reach the quantity that required dyeing. He (Sayyiduna Anas) says: 'If I wanted to count the white hairs on his blessed head, I could have counted them; they were only a few.' Considering both types of narrations, the reconciliation offered by Imam Nawawi رحمۃ اللہ علیہ seems appropriate. He says: 'The preferred view is that the Beloved Prophet ﷺ sometimes dyed his hair, but not often. So, whoever saw something reported it, and this interpretation is more suitable.'
