شمائل ترمزی (حدیث 107)Sayyiduna Jabir رضي الله تعالٰى عنه narrates that when the Noble Prophet ﷺ entered the city during the Conquest of Makkah, there was a black turban on his blessed head.
The Noble Prophet ﷺ sometimes let the end of his turban hang loose as a ‘shimla’ (the tail of a turban/imamah) and sometimes tucked it in. The shimla often rested between his two shoulders or on one shoulder. Sometimes he ﷺ would adjust his turban in a particular manner, passing one end from the left side under his chin and wrapping it around his head. His turban was usually black. Under the turban, he ﷺ wore a cap around his head. He ﷺ did not use a tall cap. The Noble Prophet's ﷺ turban was seven hands span long, and the shimla was slightly longer than a fist. Both Sayyiduna Amir Muawiyah and Sayyiduna Abu Darda رضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہما often wore black turbans, and following this tradition, the Noble Prophet ﷺ once wore a black turban belonging to Abdullah ibn Uthman رضي الله عنه.
