شمائی ترمزی (حدیث 48)Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas رضي الله عنه said: The Noble Prophet ﷺ would apply ithmid kohl to both eyes three times each before sleeping every night. And Yazid bin Harun, in his narration, added that the Noble Prophet ﷺ had a kohl container from which he would apply kohl to each eye three times before going to sleep.
Sayyiduna Jabir رضي الله عنه narrated that the Holy Prophet ﷺ said: 'Certainly apply athmad kohl, for it brightens the sight and increases the eyelashes.' It is narrated from Sayyiduna ibn Abbas that the Beloved Prophet ﷺ said: 'Apply athmad kohl, for it kindles the sight and causes hair to grow.' It was thought that the Beloved Prophet ﷺ had a kohl pot from which he would apply kohl every night; three strokes to one eye and three to the other. The method is that first two strokes are applied to the right eye, then three to the left, and then one to the right again, so that the beginning and end are both on the right eye. Applying kohl in this manner every night before sleep removes poverty and weakness of sight. In some narrations, it is mentioned that the Holy Prophet ﷺ would apply three strokes to the right eye and two to the left at night before sleep.
