The Final Prophet’s ﷺ blessed helm/helmet

Daily Life of the Beloved Prophet ﷺ

Hadith

Translation

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas رضي الله تعالٰى عنه that on the day of the Conquest, the Noble Prophet ﷺ entered Makkah with a helmet on his blessed head. When he ﷺ removed the helmet, a man came and said, “Ibn Khatal is clinging to the covering of the Ka’bah.” The Holy Prophet ﷺ said, “Kill him.” Explanation of the Hadith: This Hadith shows that when the Noble Prophet ﷺ entered Makkah, He ﷺ was wearing a helmet (i.e., a battle helmet) on his blessed head. In another narration, however, it mentions a turban. Regarding this, Hafiz Ibn Hajar Asqalani رحمۃ اللہ تعالٰی علیہ states that at the time of entering Makkah, the Noble Prophet ﷺ had a helmet on his blessed head, and once he ﷺ had entered Makkah, he ﷺ wore a turban.

Narration

This hadith indicates that the Beloved Prophet ﷺ was wearing a helmet on his head when he entered Makkah. However, in another narration, an Imamah is mentioned. Hafiz Ibn Hajar Asqalani رحمۃ اللہ علیہ states that when the Beloved Prophet ﷺ entered Makkah, he was wearing a helmet, but after entering Makkah, he put on an Imamah. Ibn Khatal's name was Abdul Aziz, but the Beloved Prophet ﷺ changed it to Abdullah. He used to write down the divine revelation. Once, the Beloved Prophet ﷺ sent him to collect charity with an Ansari companion and a slave. While resting on the way, he ordered the slave to prepare food while they slept. When he woke up, the food was not ready, so he killed the servant and fled, fearing retribution. The Ansari companion informed the Noble Prophet ﷺ about the incident, and the Noble Prophet ﷺ ordered his execution. Ibn Khatal fled to the polytheists of Makkah, renounced Islam, and became an apostate. Further, he committed the sin of composing blasphemous poetry against the Holy Prophet ﷺ along with two slave girls. The Holy Prophet ﷺ declared, 'Even if he hides in the curtains of the Ka’bah, he has no safety. Kill him.'
