ریاض الصالحین (حدیث 584)Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas رضي الله تعالٰى عنه reports that the Noble Prophet ﷺ passed by the graves of Madinah Tayyibah. He turned towards them and said: “O dwellers of the graves! Peace be upon you. May Allah Almighty forgive us and you. You have preceded us, and we shall soon follow after you.”
Sayyidatuna Fatima Khuzaiya رضي الله عنها narrated: I was once passing by the battlefield of Uhud and when I reached the blessed grave of Sayyiduna Hamza رضي الله عنه, I said: اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَیْکَ یَاعَمَّ رَسُوْلِ اللّٰہ (Peace be upon you, O uncle of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ). Then I heard a voice in my ear saying: (And upon you be peace, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings). The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Visit the graves, for they remind one of the Hereafter and make one lose interest in the worldly life.' Sayyiduna Buraidah رضي الله عنه narrated that the Noble Prophet ﷺ did teach us to say when visiting a graveyard: 'O believers and families of Muslims! Peace be upon you. Insha'Allah, we will join you. We ask Allah for safety for ourselves and for you.'
