The Noble Prophet’s ﷺ way of walking

The Noble Prophet’s ﷺ way of walking

Daily Life of the Beloved Prophet ﷺ

Hadith

Translation

Sayyiduna Ali رضي الله تعالٰى عنه narrates that when the Noble Prophet ﷺ walked, he would lean slightly forward, as though descending from a height.

Narration

Sayyiduna Abu Huraira رضي الله عنه narrated, 'I have not seen anyone more beautiful than the Messenger of Allah ﷺ; it was as if the sun was revolving in his face. And I have not seen anyone faster in his pace than the Messenger of Allah ﷺ; it was as if the earth was rolled up for him. We would exert ourselves to the utmost in our pace, while he walked without any exertion.' The Beloved Prophet's ﷺ swiftness was in terms of the distance covered, not in the speed of his steps. He walked with great dignity and slowly. Allah says, "And walk modestly in your pace." But despite his slow pace, he covered a great deal of distance very quickly. This was a miracle of the Holy Prophet ﷺ that he could cover more ground while walking slowly. Some Sufi saints have also been granted this miraculous ability, which is known as "Tay al-Ard" (covering the earth). During the Mi’raj, the Holy Prophet ﷺ not only covered the earth but also traveled through the heavens and earth, the Throne, and the Preserved Tablet. When powerful people walk, they suddenly lift their feet from the ground, as if dragging them. The Beloved Prophet's ﷺ gait was of the first kind. 'Takfa' means to lift the foot as if descending from a height. The Holy Prophet's ﷺ pace was like this.
